The Issues

Safe Neighborhoods

I believe everyone deserves a safe place to live and play.

We need to make our neighborhoods in District 3 safer through targeted speed limit awareness, more sidewalks, and more clearly marked crosswalks. I live on Hollis Heights and there is a constant problem with drivers speeding down the street and ignoring stop signs. Often, there are citizens walking on the edge of those same roads because there aren't sidewalks. I know the same is true for many of our District 3 neighborhoods.

Preserve Economic Diversity

One of the things that makes District 3 special is its economic diversity. It is what makes Newnan charming and makes our district such a desirable place to live. All of our property values in District 3 benefit from preserving the character and history of these neighborhoods.

Many long-time residents in and surrounding Cole Town and other historic neighborhoods are living in unsafe and inadequate houses out of alignment with basic living standards. Some of these houses are rentals and some are occupied by people who simply can't afford necessary building maintenance.

If I am elected, I will work with Cynthia Jenkins to start a community conversation throughout District 3 to discuss ways to help qualified residents get the maintenance done - maybe through a grant systems funded by charitable donations and help from churches and community support. Whatever the mechanism, we need to start the conversation because the result will benefit us all.

Film Production

It's no secret that Newnan has become a popular place for movies to be filmed.

We need to find ways for the citizens of District 3 to benefit from our use as a movie backdrop. I love the fact that move companies want to film in District 3, but we need to negotiate for something in exchange that benefits all the residents of the district. Currently, benefits go just to those individuals lucky enough to negotiate private deals from movie companies to film inside and around their homes and businesses.

I don't know yet how our city might be legally allowed to benefit, but it seems only fair that we expect the movie companies to help us build a new public park, sidewalk, or other amenity in one of our District 3 neighborhoods that need it most.
